Elizabeth Whelan
Elizabeth Whelan's inspired textiles have been chosen by preeminent American designers to adorn their most innovative and advanced products. Her collections include woven textiles and wall coverings for the contract, residential and apparel markets.
One of our design partners for more than 10 years, Elizabeth has designed award-winning textiles and meshes for most of Humanscale's seating solutions, including the Freedom, Liberty and Diffrient World chairs. The process for building the textiles was methodical and started with Niels Diffrient, the design visionary behind Humanscale’s distinctive seating models. Diffrient would communicate the chair’s ergonomic functionality and what the fabric had to do, and Elizabeth would create custom fabrics tailored to his brief. The resulting textile was as essential to the chair’s performance as its streamline structure.
Drawing inspiration from nature, fine art and architecture, Elizabeth designs custom fabrics for Humanscale that are supportive, durable, aesthetically brilliant, and comfortable.
Elizabeth is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, where she was awarded a Textron Fellowship. Explore her studio for Elizabeth's full spectrum of work.
